This blog is about a 3 1/2-weeks-journey wich will start in June 2023.

I found an old tour guide on my shelf about the Rhine Cycle Path
and thought that was a good idea. I´ll follow the EuroVelo 15.

Starting at Andermatt/Switzerland I´d like to visit the source of the river Rhine next to the Oberalppass.
This stage passes through Chur, Switzerland’s oldest town, the border of the Principality of Liechtenstein, and the banks of Lake Constance, which surrounded by castles and orchards.
Cycling along the coast I´m going to visit Constance, the outstanding route passes through Schaffhausen and its famous waterfall – the largest in Europe – and the many quaint towns and villages spanning the river in Germany and Switzerland.

The Rhine Cycle Path between Basel and Mainz will take me through the Upper Rhine Plain along the German-French border and I´m going to see some masterpieces of architecture.

After a visit in Mainz I´ll follow the river to see he UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
Passing vineyards, over 40 castles and the well-known Loreley rock, I will reach Koblenz, which is well worth seeing. The Lower Middle Rhine Valley north of Koblenz also offers some cultural and scenic highlights.

Now the Rhine Valley widens into the Bay of Cologne, and the Middle Rhine becomes the Lower Rhine where I´m going to approach Düsseldorf.

Finally the cycle path will take me to the North Sea.
This part of the trip will be more industrialized and less populated.
Directly behind the border at Millingen, the Rhine branches out into several branches.
I´m going to pass beautiful small towns and historic windmills and finally reach the metropolis of Rotterdam.

After a visit to this city, I will start my journey home – just as I came to the starting point of my journey – by train.
